Mutoh ValueJet 1638 DTF Review: When Your Billboard Printer Starts Making T-Shirts

Originally built for outdoor vinyl, the ValueJet 1638’s industrial DNA translates surprisingly well to DTF. With minor mods, it handles 64-inch PET film with the same precision it uses for vehicle wraps. It’s not the most efficient for standard apparel, but for shops already running Mutoh systems, it’s a low-risk way to diversify into custom fabric without buying a second machine.

The ValueJet 1638 has been a solid addition to our production floor. The 64-inch width allows us to print gang sheets efficiently, cutting material waste significantly. Mutoh's build quality is evident — this thing feels like it will last for years. Print speed in production mode is impressive. The only downside is the initial calibration for DTF-specific profiles took some experimentation. Once we nailed the settings, output has been consistently excellent. Great machine for scaling up.
